san fran

Cody and I are headed off to San Francisco tomorrow morning! Yay! I've never been so I'm super excited. We've got a full week planned; When we get in we'll spend that afternoon and evening with my sister-in-law Tanya and her new baby Colton. We've got Sunday to ourselves and then Monday we're driving to Sonoma to drink wine all day with Reese and Amy. Fortunately, they're nice enough to let us stay with them so we don't have to drive back to San Fran after all the wine tours. On the way back on Tuesday, we're stopping off at Muir Woods to hike and look at red oaks. Then we'll drive back into the city to eat dim sum and then go for sushi that night. I can't wait...seriously, I'm ready now! Full report upon my return.

Jena

I don't have much time, so I will be brief. Being from a small to mid-sized town in Louisiana, the recent happenings in Jena have really hit home. As I have experienced many emotions reading through the articles reporting on the incidents, I have mostly experienced sadness. I am sad that the people of the city of Jena and of all of Louisiana have not taught their children not to look at the color of someone's skin when they see a person. I am sad that racism is still so prevalent in my home state and all over the country. I am sad that when I go home I hear the "n" word as if it's a part of people's everyday vocabulary. But most of all I am sad that both white and black people feed the racism without even realizing that they're doing it. Each side blames the other. It's as if it is a war, and a never ending war at that. Frankly, I don't understand any of it. When I look at a person, I do not see the color of his or her skin. It's not about being liberal or conservative; it's about being a human being. And that's what I will teach my children.

Been tagged

Vanessa tagged me, which means that I have to list six little-known facts about myself. This ain't easy, folks. I really enjoy talking about myself. Okay, here goes:

1. I suck at breaking up with people. Since I'm now married, this doesn't really matter, but it took me a really long time to end things with the guy I dated before Cody. That relationship started out as a rebound relationship and ended up turning into us almost getting engaged after dating for a year and a half. I'd either be married to him with at least one child and absolutely miserable or divorced right now if I had gone through with it. Fortunately, for both of us, I wised up and ended the relationship.

2. When I was younger, say in elementary school, I wanted to be a Laker Girl. Paula Abdul was my hero. My, how times have changed.

3. I used to be a Republican-yeah, me too, Vanessa.

4. When I was in kindergarten, I was deathly afraid of Michael Jackson's Thriller. I had to be picked up from two slumber parties because it was on tv and I started crying. What a wuss.

5. I really like Justin Timberlake's music.

6. I cannot stand Kraft Macaroni & Cheese. I know, I might be the only person on the planet.

I don't really have anyone to tag. That's kind of sad.

So, I totally left one out:

7. If I had balls, I would have about 10 tattoos, maybe more. I love them and yes, I love watching Miami Ink and now LA Ink.
